Resources for Writers
Rule #1: the internet is your friend! If you’re an aspiring writer, it may be your very best friend.
Here are a few resources that have been incredibly helpful to me so far. I hope some of them help you out as well.
Critique and Technique
Forward Motion for Writers – founded by author Holly Lisle and now run by author Lazette Gifford, Forward Motion offers forums, chat rooms, classes, and critique groups, all for free!
Holly Lisle – she may have moved on from Forward Motion, but her wonderful essays on writing are still available on her site. She also offers classes, some for free, some for a fee.
Critters.org – founded by Andrew Burt, Critters is an online critique group for novice and accomplished writers.
Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America (SFWA) – the SWFA’s newly revamped site includes lots of information for the SFF writer, whether you’re new or well into your career.
Motivation
National Novel Writing Month – 30 days. 50,000 words. Lots of company.
Jeff VanderMeer’s BookLife – the BookLife blog builds on Jeff’s guide for the aspiring professional writer, BookLife.
